Donations
When you donate to HRD, 89% of your donation goes directly to helping underemployed Yemen workers, women, children, and families. The remaining amount is spent on HRD operational expenses that are critical to supporting our brother and sisters in Yemen. HRD constantly strives to reduce its overhead costs, but we do not measure financial ratios as a core accomplishment. HRD instead focuses on maintaining ethical practices in managing your donation through: demonstrating tangible results and sharing our goals, strategies, management systems, and governance processes. We invite all potential stakeholders to review our financial documents, programs, and staff profiles.
You can hear from our beneficiaries who value HRD’s work here (Success Stories).
We are delighted that you want to support those affected by the ongoing conflict in Yemen. Rather than benefit one family or child, HRD programs are designed to benefit whole communities. We also recognize that many families, even those with orphans, deserve to be as self-sufficient as possible. This is why we have designed Project Uplift where your donation can provide basic needs (such as food, rent, health care, furniture, and school supplies) for one family for one year. With this support, families will be able to secure employment and obtain self-sufficiency. HRD will then select new participants for Project Uplift.
For orphans specifically, HRD focuses on whole orphanages to eliminate favoritism if only a few children received sponsorship. Our work on orphanages provides wraparound services to these children facing adversity through rehabilitation of orphanages in Yemen, provision of education, healthcare, food, and economic opportunity which are all included in more traditional orphan sponsorship programs. This way, rather than benefiting one orphan, your donation can serve a whole community of orphans.

Zakat and Qurbani
Yes, all our projects are about helping the poor and vulnerable which make them zakat eligible. When you donate to HRD, 89% of your donation goes directly to services that help the Yemeni people.
Meaning sacrifice, qurbani is the slaughtering of an animal following the sacrifice criteria described in the Qur’an. HRD procures local Yemeni meat to give it for a family in need to eat through the generous contributions of our donors.
